Are you an MSc graduate looking for an exciting opportunity to kickstart your career in algal biotechnology? Look no further! Algaeholix, an aspiring commercial microalgae grower, is seeking a highly motivated and creative candidate to join their team.
The Project: As part of a DTIC-funded THRIP project, you will be part of the team that will be scaling up a microalgae cultivation and processing plant. This is a highly engaging project that aims to create permanent employment opportunities for graduates who are ready to learn and gain experience.
The Candidate: The candidate must hold an MSc degree in chemical engineering, molecular biology, microbiology, biochemistry, process engineering, or any other related discipline (no work experience required). We are looking for someone curious, creative, internally motivated, an independent thinker, and someone who enjoys a challenge. The selected candidate must be able to work in a flexible environment as the task at hand is extremely diverse. We encourage applications from candidates from previously disadvantaged backgrounds but this is not a necessity.
Duration: Two-year fixed contract position. You will be predominantly based within the Centre for Bioprocess Engineering Research (CeBER), University of Cape Town. The microalgae scale-up up project will take place at a farm in Vlottenburg in Stellenbosch and you will be required to do onsite work as well.
